Man, Paula Deen was on fire this episode! She was really making me laugh! It featured Mama Rose and they made chicken and biscuits and some gooey looking dessert. I don't normally appreciate her unnecessary fattening recipes, but I DO appreciate her sweet southern attitude. I've been watching hours of Food Network this week. Mostly Chopped and I got sucked into TWO hours of Cupcake Wars. Wasn't planning on it, but then the secret ingredients got me hooked. Tonight I plan on making Ina Garten's Spring Green Risotto. I've never watched Barefoot Contessa before yesterday. Mostly her show really relaxes me.
Here is the risotto that I did not make last night but today. Someone only had a bowl of cereal for dinner. It took 3 out of the 5 grocery stores nearby to collect all the ingredients! This is due mainly to each place being either a big, non-natural type, ahem, ShopRite, or a teeny mom & pop filled-to-the-brim with good stuff but not everything. That was a Saturday morning type of activity. Plus a coffee and scone gathering moment.
I would definitely make this again when non-frozen, local asparagus rears it's rising spear and rolls around. (Sorry for the semi-non-poetic visual imagery). Nothing was wrong with the frozen, just another appropriate time. Here's the recipe if you'd like to try it.
