Especially in anticipation of a storm that's forecasted to bring 8-12" of snow. It's a rare October blizzard! Also especially when you have nowhere to be. Or if you have garden work that you could hurry out and take care of before things get too bad. That feeling of taking care of things, and, it's-perfectly-okay-to-not-go-anywhere. Yesterday, these are some of the garden activities we did to prepare:
**Bioforked about 800 sq. ft. of garden beds;
**Spread and incorporated compost;
**Hay-mulched the garlic;
**Dug, potted up and brought the lemon grass to the greenhouse;
**Unfurled hoses to let the water drain out;
**Refurled hoses and brought them inside;
**Unfurled row cover to let the snow and frost from the previous night melt during the day and then covered the rosemary with it;
**Made a new compost pile with some old sheep poo that I shoveled from the barn and the lemon verbena plants that got frost damaged last night;
**Brought in potted fig tree and bay leaf close to the building, and covered with Re-may, like tucking them in for bed.
We worked until dark and then I went directly to the grocery store to stock up on things that I needed in the event of strandedness. -eggs -milk -butter -ricotta cheese -kiwis -oranges -granola -Peanut Butter Cup Ben & Jerry's.
...
Enough about snow and activities. Here is some calendula and fennel.

the essentials... peanut butter cups... definitely!! they've stopped carrying them here and i've been going crazy! stay warm and cozy!
